SHAKESPEARE SINGLE PLAY INTENSIVE

Measure for Measure - 2 LAUSD Salary Points

The Single Play Intensive is an opportunity to conduct an intensive study of one play from Shakespeare's complete works. Taught by Resident Artist Deborah Strang and guest faculty, this course allows actors, theatre-lovers, and teachers to increase their breadth of knowledge through inquiry-based table readings and hands-on exercises in vocal delivery.
Mondays: Oct 4, 11, 18, 25 from 6-9:30pm. Additional date for teachers only: Aug 24 from 9-4:30pm. Teachers must also attend two plays to fulfill LAUSD salary point requirements. Cost: $150

A Noise Within's Professional Development for Teachers

FALL SESSION:
September 10 5-9:30pm, Sept 11 & 12, 8:30am - 5:30pm

Shakespeare Within is an opportunity for teachers to re-energize their educational practices to promote a love of Shakespeare in the classroom, taking their teaching techniques to a new and exciting level. In hands-on sessions, A Noise Within teaching artists will lead a series of techniques that will get teachers out from behind the desk and on their feet, and guide the process of designing new lessons that pair textual analysis with fun, acting-based games and exercises. The course is designed for those wishing to expand their knowledge of Shakespeare, as well as those for whom Shakespeare is relatively new. 2 LAUSD salary points. Cost: $150

ACTING SHAKESPEARE
FOR FALL 2010, this  class will be combined with "Classics Workout", and will retain its Monday time slot.

In Acting Shakespeare, students learn how to bring Shakespeare's characters to life on stage. This class builds on Speaking Shakespeare's foundation, and allows participants to incorporate physicalization of their character, and to spur a connection to key emotions that enliven their performance. Taught by Deborah Strang, this course is appropriate for those who have taken basic verse scansion.

Cost: $160 for one session - 4 weeks of classes REGISTER NOW!
(5 weeks if the number of Mondays that month is 5)
Classes meet 7pm - 9:30pm Monday if 6 or fewer students enrolled
Classes meet 7pm - 10pm Monday if more than 6 students enrolled

CLASSICS WORKOUT

FOR FALL 2010, this class will be combined with "Acting Shakespeare" and will occur on Mondays.

Classics Workout, an ongoing class, is offered by A Noise Within's Co-Artistic Director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott. The course is dedicated to exploring a wide range of selections from the classic canon, from mid-Century American classics to the ancient Greeks.

Cost: $160 for one session - 4 weeks of classes REGISTER NOW!
(5 weeks if the number of Tuesdays that month is 5)
Classes meet Tuesdays from 7 pm - 9:30 pm

SPEAKING SHAKESPEARE - 1 LAUSD Salary Point
Six-week session starts September 20th, 7-9:30pm

Speaking Shakespeare focuses on scansion and vocal delivery of the Bard's verse, and is an excellent preparation for entry into the world of classical Shakespearean acting. Speaking Shakespeare is also appropriate for teachers wishing to have insight into textual analysis in order to invigorate their educational methods. Taught by Hisa Takakuwa. REGISTER NOW!

Cost: $350 for one session - 6 weeks of classes on Monday evenings. (Ask about teacher discounts!)
