Drum Circle
On Saturday, November 2, between the matinee and evening performances, there will be a celebratory drum circle event featuring Gerald C. Rivers (Wining Boy in The Piano Lesson) and the Peace Players. Join us on the A Noise Within grassy front lawn for a celebration of the rhythms and sounds of West African drumming. This event is free and open to the public.
Drum Circle with Gerald C. Rivers and the Peace Players
Master Drummer, Gerald C. Rivers has been playing, drumming, teaching and facilitating drum circles across the country for over 20 years. His work in schools, churches, prisons, community centers, rehab centers, senior centers and homeless shelters has provided musical expression to adults and children of all ages. Offering, fun creativity, free expression and an acknowledgement of the history and culture of West African rhythms with Djembes, Djoon Djoons and percussion. He believes anyone with a heartbeat can learn to play. There are only two simple rules: listen more than play (which is an adage for life as well as drums) and trust yourself to take risks and try something new. “If you are not smiling while playing in a drum circle it just means you aren’t doing it right”
