An oasis for those who love classic stories. Los Angeles Times

Places, Everyone!

Dear Friends,

“Places, Please!”

For our acting company, that phrase sends an immediate shock of adrenaline surging through the body. It brings with it a concrete realization that in just a moment, the lights will come up and we will step onstage to continue practicing an art form that is thousands of years old, a ritual that is every bit as alive and vibrant today as it was with the first production of Oedipus in 429 BCE.

But the past year gives new meaning to the phrase: “Places, Please!” “Home, Please!” “Together, Please!” “Community, Please!”

There is no theatre without you, our audience. We need each other as the dancer needs the partner, as the painter needs the brush, as the conductor needs the orchestra. We desperately miss this partnership, and long for that day (soon!) when we are all in the same place, bathing in each other’s energy, telling and hearing stories of the ages.

We are ramping up now, busy with preparations for a fall opening. In order to light up the stage with the gusto that you expect and deserve, we ask for your support. The pandemic has had a major impact on every level of what we do, so we thank you for your continued support of A Noise Within, including this Annual Fund campaign, designed to help us re-open as strong as ever.

In years past, you all have donated to A Noise Within to support our programming and productions, and we hope you will consider renewing that generous gift. It would provide us with stability during a time where funding is less secure on all fronts. We have been excited for months to prepare for our re-opening, where we can safely bring you all together again and share art, have fun, and be in community. Thank you again and tune in for our announcements coming soon about the fall. Just as the stage manager tells the actors, we are sending out the call to you, our audience, “Places, Everyone!”

With gratitude,

Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott

Watch Now. A play button overlays a scene from the Mad Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland. Alice gazes from a black tree outlined in gold as the March Hare in a knitted beanie and the Mad Hatter in a top hat laugh over a table of cakes and tea.

Recurring Gifts. Let A Noise Within do the work for you and set up a recurring gift that charges your card monthly or quarterly, like a subscription but for charity! Just tell us what credit card you would like to charge and for how long, and we’ll do the rest. For example, a $300 donation over the next year would only be $25 a month! That’s almost 4 times less than the average American spends on coffee each month. Please indicate on the remittance envelope how much you would like to charge monthly on what day. Matching Gifts. Double or triple the impact of your gift, and experience a higher level of benefits, by accessing your employer’s matching gift program (corporate philanthropy is also incentivized through the CARES Act, please contact your employer for more details). We are registered through YourCause if you have the ability to request a matching gift from your company through his organization. Our matching gift supporters include: IBM, Capital Group, Fidelity, Disney, and more. If you are employed by one of these organizations, consider requesting a match to A Noise Within to essentially double your gift. CARES Act Benefits. The CARES Act is making donating to charities more convenient and encouraged than ever! As part of the stimulus package set forth by the United States government, tax payers set forth by the United States government, tax payers who usually take the standard deduction now have an incentive to donate up to $300 “above the line” to a nonprofit organization, which is 100% tax-deductible on your 2021 tax return (filed in 2022). Donors who typically itemize their deductions can now deduct 100% of their donations from AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) rather than the previous limit of 60%. Whether you itemize your deductions or not, making a donation under this new Act to A Noise Within will help us support our staff, artists, and keep the local economy running.
