Thank you, Educators!

Dear Educators,
Happy Holidays!
It is amazing that this Fall is already coming to a close, and as we reflect on 2016, we want to reach out and thank YOU, the teachers, professors, and school administrators without whom our work would not be possible. Over the past four months, we have seen thousands of students come through the doors of A Noise Within to have their lives enriched by the magic of live theatre.
We kicked off Fall a little early this year with our first annual “Educator Extravaganza!” in August. This free Professional Development consisted of breakfast and lunch, a preview of our upcoming season, two hands-on workshops, a prize wheel, crafts, and the opportunity for teachers to book student groups early for 2016-2017 shows.
At the Extravaganza, we were lucky enough to meet a teacher from Arcadia High School who saw an opportunity for her students to have a truly experiential and interdisciplinary experience with us. As it turns out, the AP Literature students at Arcadia High read Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia every year! We developed a full partnership with the school: booking out an entire Student Matinee performance for their 325 students and offering students a selection of six fully integrative workshops ranging from scene study to the science behind Arcadia.
Our second school partnership this Fall brought us to Chaparral Middle School’s beautiful campus for a full day of workshops based on text analysis, acting, and theatrical design in A Christmas Carol. Over 400 students participated in all three workshops throughout the day before attending our Student Matinee production at A Noise Within. This was Chaparral’s second year in a row attending this play, but this year’s added component brought a truly enriching element to the students’ experience.
In addition to these wonderful partnerships, this Fall brought with it 11 sold out Student Matinees, a costume design workshop with Millikan Middle School, 213 complimentary educator tickets through our Tickets for Teachers program, and hundreds of students attending our regularly scheduled evening performances at highly subsidized ticket rates. We also initiated a formal Program Evaluation that will be implemented throughout the 2016-2017 season to better understand how our programming can continue to grow to best serve students and educators.
As we look forward to Spring, we are excited to announce that nearly all our upcoming 10 Student Matinees are close to sold out! If you are thinking of bringing your students but haven’t yet made a reservation, make sure to give us a call ASAP to secure those last few remaining spots! If we can’t fit you into a Student Matinee, however, don’t worry – we always have student ticket pricing available for our regularly scheduled evening and weekend performances as well.
The work that we do would not be possible without dedicated educators like you who work tirelessly to provide the best for your students. Arts education can be transformative for students, and we feel fortunate this holiday season that you share that sentiment. We wish you all the best as 2016 comes to an end, and we look forward to seeing you back at A Noise Within in the New Year!
All the best,
Alicia Green and Leah Artenian
